The Inherent Charm of Imperfection

Like any other mother, I love perfect photos of my kids.  The perfect outfit, the perfect smile, you get the picture.

But recently one of my boys threw this little number together and it's playfulness (and the upcoming magic hour light - after all, it's all about the light more than anything else) was pure inspiration for me.  There is something so cute about the imperfect placement of the cape.  It was just unbridled creativity - pure, and free.

My Vancouver

I was recently on an assignment to shoot the sights and sounds of Vancouver.  What a treat that was.  Shooting Vancouver and getting paid?  No problem!  My shot list consisted of Stanley Park, the view of Yaletown from False Creek, and Granville Island, among the many things that make our city special.   But that is just standard beauty.

What is most interesting to me to shoot are the old, ruined, dilapidated and withered scenes that have so  many more stories to tell.  And, what they hide is often more interesting than what they reveal. So that's what I'll share with you today.

These are the photos of Vancouver that really draw me in.  The old, the beautiful, the aging, the ruins; the structures fallen from grace.  Oh what these walls would whisper.

I'm always looking to capture unintentional beauty - follow me on Instagram, @kyrani for my visual diary of the extraordinary in everyday moments.

Playing with Colour

I hate Playland.

There.  I said it.  It's too expensive for a family of four and with two boys, who last a maximum of two hours, it's really not worth the price of admission.  Thank goodness for the annual Volkswagen passes we get!

However, as cheesy as it is, Playland is a wonderful opportunity to play with colour - or any amusement park for that matter - is a prime opportunity to play with colour.  And the overcast weather a few weeks ago, made the perfect backdrop for those colours to really stand out in a composition.
